Lisa Jordan, Director of Marketing, chose the Women’s Foundation of Colorado for our “Days of Thanks / Days of Giving” because of their focus and impact on helping women in Colorado thrive.
The work of the Women’s Foundation of Colorado is important in helping women and girls in Colorado thrive. For 30 years, their programs have helped with education and economic opportunities for women in Colorado who live in poverty or at the economic edge.
The Women’s Foundation of Colorado works toward long-term social change and breaking the cycle of poverty through research, non-partisan public policy advocacy, and grantmaking.
Two areas of focus, in particular, align with Lisa’s strong personal passions: Their work in STEM programs for girls and young women and their leadership in initiatives to reduce unplanned pregnancy through access to long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARC).
One example of STEM support is a grant from WFCO to “I Have a Dream of Boulder County” that helps low-income girls/young women on a path to a STEM career starting in first – third grade through high school and college.
Early LARC programs in Colorado reduced unplanned pregnancy in the state by 50% in just two years and research shows planned pregnancies are a key element for economic security for women. WFCO has a solid history of supporting and budget items that increase access to LARC, and opposing efforts that threaten a woman’s health and opportunity by limiting her ability to plan for childbearing.
These are just two examples of the grants, advocacy, and research of WFCO that benefit women and their families across the state of Colorado. And, when women and their families thrive, the entire state benefits.
“In addition to the work and mission of WFCO aligning with my personal interests,” Lisa noted, “their focus also aligns with Canna Advisors’ leadership in driving diversity and inclusion as the cannabis industry develops.”
