Cannabis in the Carolinas Needs You

Contact Your Legislators in NC & SC to Support Cannabis Legalization\

Both North Carolina and South Carolina are seeing headway in the quest for greater cannabis access. North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper expressed his support for broader decriminalization efforts in the state and highlighted opportunity for a medical cannabis bill to pass in the legislature this year. Likewise, South Carolina lawmakers have signaled bipartisan support for its own medical cannabis program with two proposals having already been filed ahead of the start of the legislative session.

Individual Voices Make an Impact

Last year, medical cannabis legalization passed in the North Carolina Senate, however House Republicans blocked the measure. Cannabis has also already been decriminalized in the state, having decriminalized possession of 0.5 ounces all the way back in 1977.

South Carolinians face a greater challenge given Governor Henry McMaster’s “F” rating from NORML and continued resistance to even allowing decriminalization efforts in the state. Two bills being pre-filled, though, is a sign for optimism, both of which would create a legal framework for qualified patients to receive cannabis products and for caregivers to “cultivate, grow, and dispense marijuana for medical use.”

With all that is happening in these Southern states, there are no shortage of opportunities to make your voice heard about creating medical programs in both North and South Carolina. These legislative sessions can prove to be fruitful if enough pressure is added to enact necessary change.
