Cannabis in Virginia Needs You
Contact Your Legislators in Virginia to Support Cannabis Legalization
After several years of delay, we are finally seeing some movement in Virginia with state Republican lawmakers filing a bill to create a regulated adult-use cannabis marketplace in the Commonwealth. Given the mixed reactions to the bill, this legislative session is shaping up to be the perfect time to advocate for progress and social equity at the state level.
Individual Voices Make an Impact
The legislation proposed is not what everyone was hoping for. Marijuana Justice Virginia has said the legislation, “erases any commitment to addressing the harm of marijuana prohibition that continues to specifically target Black Virginians.” Others contend, however, that the stripped-down legislation offers a “practical path forward,” necessary to pass the Republican-controlled House of Delegates.
There are still opportunities to change the language of the legislation and to make your voice heard about creating a legal framework in Virginia. If you don’t act, legislation will continue to stall or even die. This legislative session can prove to be fruitful, if enough pressure is added to enact the change we need.
