11 Michigan Cities to Award Cannabis Licenses
Cannabis Applications: Detroit to Lakeshore Communities & Rural Areas
At least 11 municipalities across the state of Michigan will soon open license application windows for adul-use cannabis licenses.
The application process, number of licenses, and timelines will vary by municipality.
Read below to learn the specifics that we know now.
First Detroit Application Window: August 1 - 31
The City of Detroit will issue new adult-use retail, microbusiness, and consumption lounge licenses in a series of application rounds. The process does allow for some social equity provisions.
Applications will be processed in four 30-day phases, starting in August 2022.
Applicants should first apply through the state-level Marijunana Regulatory Agency, then apply to the City of Detroit.
Phase 1 License Applications
The application window for Phase 1 opens on August 1, 2022 and closes on August 31, 2022.
There will be 40 retail licenses available in the first round and 30 per round for the next two rounds.
Half the retail licenses in this phase are allocated are for social equity applicants.
The City of Detroit is also offering limited numbers of microbusiness and consumption licenses during each period. The other licenses – grower and processor – are not limited.
